MySpace and emoticons
As you probably know, given the amount of media attention MySpace has attracted, MySpace is a blogging and social networking service. Each personal 'space' includes an instant messenger application for users. And that's where emoticons fit in. The messaging tool on the page allows users to insert emoticons.
There's also a forum (think of it as a room with lots of users chatting about a topic) on MySpace. There are heaps of different forum categories to choose where to have a chat. Some have very few posts, others have hundreds. Some forums beyond the walls of MySpace let you use forum smileys but from what we can see MySpace doesn't.

Pimp your profile
We didn't know what this term meant at first. Basically 'pimp your profile' means customize it or personalize it. There's a forum topic here dedicated to how to do it with over 1000 posts. Wow. It can get complicated because customizing involves some HTML code. That said there are lots of sites that want to help and will create the code for you so you just copy and paste.
Here are a few ideas from My Emoticons to get you started with pimping your profile:
- Create a background: Squidoo has some great info on how to do this
- Add a profile picture: add your own profile picture. You could use one of our emoticon avatars
- Generate code: Space misc is one of many sites that allows users to generate code to do a range of things e.g. create glitter graphics
- Add Graphics: a site named Customize your Space has a good collection of graphics to get started

As you can see below the MySpace messenger smileys are very 'grainy' and quite boring. At the moment users can't add their own emoticons into instant messenger chat but we recommend using My Emoticons icons as graphics to show how you feel on a blog post.
Get a space: http://www.myspace.com. To get MySpace instant messenger, you'll need to download the instant messenger application once you've created your space. Mac users - bad luck. The instant messenger feature is not available - yet.
