A short summary of MSN Messenger
MSN Messenger is the most popular instant messenger application outside the USA. Without a doubt MSN Messenger is the instant messenger application of choice for emoticon lovers. The website www.mess.be is just one example of this craze. MSN Messenger uses the word 'emoticon' to refer to their little icons but lots of users do talk about msn smileys and will search for 'free msn smileys' in Google.
Although the emoticons built into the actual application are good they're not the best ones available. Because MSN allows users to upload their own custom emoticons, it means a lot of innovative emoticons have been designed especially for MSN Messenger by fans. The MSN custom emoticons feature supports animated emoticons up to 50x50 pixels.

Personalization features
MSN Messenger has always led the way with launching new features for MSN Messenger - perhaps not quite as quickly as fans would like because there are lots of plug-in applications that have been created by tecchy people to allow users to do even more with MSN Messenger. The main features are:
- Backgrounds: customize your background with static or animated backgrounds
- Display pictures: an image to represent you. MSN Messenger also supports 'Dynamic Display Pictures' that change with your mood, for example if you type :-) then your display picture will change to reflect your mood. Try customizing your pic with a My Emoticons avatar
- Personal status message: like AOL's away messages, MSN Messenger allows users to add a status message to reflect your status or mood
- Winks: large animated images that you send to contacts including kisses, hearts and silly animated cartoons
- Paid for emoticons and winks: download cool packs of images in a choice of themes sponsored by advertisers e.g. SpongeBob SquarePants, Tweety Pie etc
