A short summary
It's this simple - almost all email applications let you insert animated icons and smileys. Email applications such as Hotmail, Microsoft Outlook, GMail and Yahoo Mail will all let you play with email emoticons.
Using emails emoticons can be just as fun as using them in instant messenger and they have the same purpose - to help you express your emotion and to have some fun.

Where?
In our list of the emoticon websites we like and our list of our recommended emoticon applications you'll see some sites and applications that are dedicated to email emoticons and smileys. Incredimail is definitely the best but Smiley Central is good for email smileys too.
How?
All the emoticons we've mentioned in our emoticon style pages or showed you on our emoticon collection pages will work with email. Rather than inserting the image from a toolbar like you would with Smiley Central, you instead copy and paste an image from our website or save the image as a file to your computer and then insert it as a picture into your email.
For specific instructions on inserting animated icons into your email you will need to check the help files of your specific email application. Here's something to get you started:
Hotmail: if you use Hotmail you need to read this to understand how to insert emoticons into Hotmail
Yahoo Mail: if you use Yahoo, take at look at these tips to find out how to use email emoticons
Microsoft Outlook: make Outlook more fun with emoticons. Take a look here for some instructions.
Email signatures
Go one step further and design yourself a signature. Use an avatar as an email signature as in the example below:
Find the avatar we used on the cute avatars page and the animated emoticon we used on the animated smiley says page. To us, this email looks much more inviting to read than the boring text emails we get.
