We've searched the web to come up with a list of the highest quality emoticon download websites - we wanted to find the cream (i.e. the best part!). If you type 'free emoticons' into Google you get 1.7m websites listed. OMG! The average person would not even contemplate visiting all these emoticon websites. We did - well sort of. Not quite all of them. Anyway, we saved you a heap of time and listed the websites we think have the best (and by that we mean highest quality) free smiley faces to download. You may disagree, that's just fine with us. It would be a boring world if we all thought the same way.

	Incredimail This software is the best email emoticon software on the web. It allows you to insert funny smiley faces and backgrounds into email.
	Get Smiley Face There's an extensive collection of cool emoticons with some really weird categories like 'turkey' and 'weed' - you've got to see it to believe it.
	Smiley Arena A well designed emoticon download website with lots of free smileys to download. You have to search through hundreds of pages to find the good ones but overall the site is good. The smiley faces work as MSN Messenger emoticons and also in email and blogs.
	MSN 101 A nice collection of emoticons - just make sure you look in the 'emoticons' menu which tends to collapse when you're viewing a category so you can't see the other categories within the emoticons folder.
	Emoticons 4 U This website has a bunch of cool emoticons to download. You can also buy a CD with over 4000 emoticons on it.
	Planet Smilies Thousands of smiley icons to download in lots of different categories including sad, happy, and cool emoticons. Download as many as you want for free.
	Get Smile This software has some nicely designed emoticons to download. The software has MSN Messenger emoticons as well as smiley icons for email.

	Smiley Central The big daddy of free smiley icons. Smiley Central has been around for years and is extremely popular. They have over 10,000 icons including graphically rich 3D animated icons. The drawback is that their MSN Messenger emoticons only work if both you and your instant messenger buddies have Smiley Central installed.
	Angel Fire This is actually a page on a blog and it's packed with animated Asian emoticons. They're really cute. They're arranged well and there's a little description of the emotion the emoticon is expressing next to each emoticon.
	MSN Pro A good selection of emoticons and a wide range of categories. They've definitely stolen a few from other sites which is naughty but saves you time searching through zillions of smiley sites
	Messenger Freak Another good website that basically steals smileys and emoticons from other websites.
	Messenger Freak Looks like lots of fun smilies.
	33 Smiley This website lets you download smileys - the majority are taken from the Smiley Central website.
	Free Web Stuff This website is pretty good. Although they don't have the best smileys to download it's well laid out and easy to use. They also have a collection of free icons, banners, logos and other free content.
	Smiley Skit Lots of the classic small smiley icons are available on this website. There's really nothing innovative about the content. You can certainly download more inspiring emoticons elsewhere.
	On Top of The World Communities A quirky little site with some 'senior emoticons', yes that's right, emoticons for your grandparents. There are some funny emoticons here.
	Hotbar This software is similar to Smiley Central in that it installs a toolbar into your browser. The toolbar has loads of free smiley faces, screensavers, eCards and more.
	My Personal Expression This website is from American Greetings and has lots of MSN Messenger emoticons. All content is for MSN Messenger.
	Smiley World Want smiley icons on a t-shirt or teddy bear? If so, this is the website for you.
	MeeZone This is a paid-for only website with MSN Messenger emoticons, winks and backgrounds. Download smileys that are well designed but they do cost money.
	Add Emoticons If you don't mind flagrant disregard for copyright law this website is great although the website design is not great. The images are stolen images from all over the web including Smiley Central, Meegos, Muggins and more.
	SweetIM These guys are basically copying Smiley Central. Their software installs a bunch of smiley icons but it also installs a search bar onto your computer which is not very useful. The msn messenger emoticons are very ordinary.
	Mess A MSN Messenger enthusiast website with loads of different sorts of content including some emoticon downloads. The site navigation is extremely difficult to use however and most of the free smiley icons are very ordinary.
	Sherv This site contains a bunch of MSN Messenger emoticon software but unfortunately most of the applications are stuffed with adware and spyware.
	Emoinstaller We strongly recommend you DO NOT the free smiley faces from this website as the software is jam-packed with adware. The software contains only MSN Messenger emoticons. Download free smileys from this site at your own risk.
