Think movie critic i.e. someone that reviews and critiques the movies. Useful as a guide to know what's worth watching and what's not. Take a look at Metacritic if you've not already found it. |

Who reviews emoticons?
We looked around and saw that no one has reviewed all the emoticons out there. That's right; no-one is helping people find emoticons. Of course there are ads, but they're biased. How do you know where to find the best emoticons? There are thousands of sites out there that relate to emoticons (or smileys - the same thing in our world). Did you know, if you type 'emoticons' into Google you get told there are 'about 25,100,000' matches. That's a rather large number. Mind-boggling. At least for us it is. |

We got thinking...
We like friendly competition so whilst we know we're the best - the idea behind the Emoticon Critic is to let you know there are other sites out there that are definitely worth looking at (as well as sites to avoid due to nasty adware and spyware). So we at My Emoticons decided we'd take on the role of 'Emoticon Critic'.
Once we had identified all the sites, we started reviewing. We had lots of discussion combined with large handfuls of laughter, spiced up with a few heated debates. Don't all management textbooks say conflict is a good thing? Anyway, the result of all the debate is that we:

Honesty is the best policy
Well that's what our mothers taught us. So when we see so many websites stealing content and pretending it's their own we get frustrated. Emoticon thieves have stolen our images. It's just not necessary. Sure, use them but at least do the decent think and use a hyperlink to our website.
We've downloaded the images we like the most and display them here on My Emoticons but we tell you where we find them and provide a hyperlink so you can go and take a look for yourself. The point of the Emoticon Critic is to open up the world of emoticons and make it easier for you to navigate and access the fun. |

Everyone's taste is different
Yeah we know that. It's like Vegemite or Marmite or Twiglets - you either love it or your hate it. There were a few of us working on this so we compiled reviews from a range of genders, ages and interests. At the end of the day, this is merely our opinionated opinion. We wanted to speak out and put our views out there. Take it or leave it. Honestly, we don't mind! |

What did we look for?
The measure we used was quality. We wanted to find the 'cream of the crop' (apologies for the idiom, couldn't resist) because that's what we like - quality. Think of a pint of black Guinness with that perfect white head sitting perfectly on the top. That's what we're looking for. To us, quality can refer to the icon graphic, the creativeness of the idea, how good the website's user experience is etc etc. You get my drift.
